Tovéř lies at the foot of the Nízký Jeseník range, below Svatý Kopeček near Olomouc. It is situated between the villages of Dolany and Samotišky.

The first written reference to Tovéř dates to 1203, in a charter issued by the Moravian margrave Vladislav Jindřich. The village square is home to the 1844 Chapel of Saints Cyril and Methodius. At the entrance to Tovéř from the direction of Olomouc stands an 1880 column of the Holy Trinity, protected as a cultural monument. A wayside shrine from the second half of the 18th century stands on raised ground near Tovéř, beside the former road from Samotišky to Dolany.
