Příkazy lies in the Upper Moravian Vale, about 10 km northwest of Olomouc. The municipality also includes Hynkov, a local district by the Morava River.

The first written record of Příkazy dates to 1250, when the village was recorded as Prekaz. Part of the village is a rural heritage conservation area, with examples of Haná clay folk architecture. Two Haná farmsteads with a žudr, a characteristic feature of the region’s folk architecture, have survived. The Haná Open-Air Museum, part of the National Museum of Nature, opened in 1990.
