The municipality of Křelov-Břuchotín consists of the two villages of Křelov and Břuchotín. It lies by the D35 motorway, around five kilometres from the centre of Olomouc. It was part of Olomouc from 1975 to 1994.
The first written record of Křelov dates to 1275, and one of Břuchotín to 1284. The modern Church of St Giles stands on Lipové náměstí in Křelov. Pope John Paul II blessed its foundation stone in 1990, and it was built between 1991 and 1993. The original Baroque Church of St Giles, built in 1719–1721, was closed in 1961 because of structural instability and demolished in 1963. The Chapel of the Holy Trinity, dating from 1773, stands on the village green in Břuchotín.
