Cholina lies at the edge of the Haná region below Rampach Hill. It is about five kilometres south of Litovel. The municipality was first mentioned in 1131.

The parish and pilgrimage Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Cholina is mentioned as early as 1326 and took on its present Neo-Gothic appearance in 1867. Near it stand a Baroque rectory dating from 1733 and a statue of St Barbara from 1715. The Haná Museum presents the municipality’s history and the lives of its residents, with tours arranged by the municipal tourist information centre. The cultural hall Záloženská dvorana was built in 1924 by a savings and loan association and still serves the public.
