Horka nad Moravou lies in the Haná Plain, about 7 km north-west of Olomouc. It is connected to Olomouc by public transport and the railway line to Senice na Hané.

The first written record of the village dates from 1271. In 1535, the city of Olomouc bought the village. The Baroque Church of St Nicholas was built in 1753. About 2.5 km north of the village, the excursion destination Lovecká chata lies in the floodplain forests of the Litovelské Pomoraví Protected Landscape Area.
